Categorization

Once a transaction has a recognized merchant, Bica assigns it a spending category — Groceries, Transportation, Entertainment, and so on — so your dashboard reflects where your money actually goes, without you having to tag anything by hand.

How a category gets picked

Bica checks a few signals, in order, to find the best category for a transaction: first, whether you've already categorized that same merchant before; then, hints from the merchant's type of business; and finally, patterns in the transaction description itself. The first signal that gives a confident answer wins.

Categories Bica uses

Out of the box, Bica sorts transactions into everyday categories like Groceries, Transportation, Restaurants, Shopping, Housing, Entertainment, Salary, and Other — the same categories you see throughout your dashboard and spending breakdowns. You can also create your own custom categories from your account settings if the defaults don't quite match how you think about your spending.

You're always in control

Any category Bica assigns can be changed with a click. When you recategorize a transaction, Bica remembers your choice for that merchant, so future transactions from the same place are categorized the way you want automatically.
